The new Multistrada 1200 is a technological marvel, combining versatility, comfort, and performance into the first Ducati that's four bikes in one. Every aspect of the bike is the result of refined engineering skill that combines outstanding performance with intelligent functionality and a strikingly exotic design. Innovative features abound, the Ride-by-Wire system, available ABS, Dynamic Traction Control, and four modes to choose from for ideal performance in any conditions. With the click of a button, the Multistrada transforms from a seriously powerful sport bike to either a comfortable long-distance tourer, surefooted urban transporter, or capable off-road enduro performer. This motorcycle changes everything.
The heart of the Multistrada is the new Testastretta 11° power plant. With decades of refinement, the unique Desmodromic valve system takes advantage of fully mechanical valve actuation for incredible performance and amazing reliability. Peak output of 150hp is reserved for Sport and Touring modes, using the advanced Ride-by-Wire throttle system to adjust power delivery. Urban and Enduro modes limit output to 100hp and provide progressive throttle for greater stability and control in highly variable conditions. Adapted from the 41° Testastretta Evoluzione engine found in Ducati superbikes, the new 11° configuration improves fuel efficiency, reduces emissions, and boasts expanded 15,000mi/24,000km major service intervals.
The bike's low weight is a result of intense attention to detail. Vacural® is an advanced vacuum die-casting technology that increases strength and reduces weight of the crankcase, and the spacious 5.3 gallon gas tank uses new molding technology to optimally balance low weight and high capacity. The signature Ducati trellis frame uses two cast aluminum sections mated with a high-pressure die-cast magnesium front subframe, achieving 19% greater torsional rigidity than the Multistrada 1100. The single-sided rear swingarm is made of fabricated and welded sections that create an iconic component — strong, lightweight, eye-catching — representing the fusion of design and functional engineering. The result of this evolutionary refinement is a dry weight of only 423lb/192kg for the 1200 and 417lb/189kg for the 1200 S, setting a new standard for road enduro and sport touring bikes.
Every part of the Multistrada 1200 has been carefully considered to maximize riding enjoyment. The commanding, upright riding position provides excellent control, and advanced ergonomics maintain the rider's precise contact with the road when carrying a passenger and with cargo bags fitted. Suspension on the 1200 is fully adjustable front and rear in spring pre-load, rebound and compression damping. The 50mm Marzocchi front fork features a special forged fork bottom, and in concert with the Sachs rear monoshock, allows a full 170mm of travel. The 1200 S model upgrades to premium Øhlins components front and rear, providing fully adjustable electronic suspension.
Stopping power comes from high-performance radially-mounted Brembo calipers gripping twin 320mm discs on the front and a 245mm disc on the rear. Standard on the 1200 S and an available option for the 1200, a Bosch-Brembo ABS system delivers outstanding braking performance in all conditions and represents a huge leap forward in safety and performance. The clutch is another class-leading refinement, with an oil bath design and slipper functionality previously found only on race machines. A progressive self-servo mechanism allows much lighter lever actuation, making shifting more comfortable in all conditions, and reduces destabilization of the rear end when aggressively down-shifting.
