There is one number on the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak spec sheet that tells you more than all the others combined, and it is not the horsepower.
It is 17 inches — the front wheel diameter. The V4, V4 S and Rally roll a 19-inch front. The Pikes Peak drops to a 17, and in doing so stops pretending to be an adventure motorcycle at all.
That single change cascades through the whole bike. Ducati says the 17-inch front offers precision, control and direct feeling with the asphalt. Ducati made that choice on purpose, and everything else about the Pikes Peak follows from it.
What Ducati actually fits
The component list Ducati publishes for this variant reads like a parts catalog from a different category of motorcycle:
- Öhlins suspension
- Marchesini forged wheels, 17-inch front
- Akrapovič titanium exhaust
- Carbon fiber components
- Sports-focused electronics
Öhlins, Marchesini and Akrapovič are the three names that show up when a manufacturer has stopped optimizing for cost and started optimizing for performance — and Ducati fits the titanium Akrapovič exhaust as standard.
500 lb, and why that is the headline
Ducati lists the Pikes Peak at 170 hp, 91 lb-ft of torque, and a wet weight of 500 lb without fuel.
Here is the whole V4 Multistrada family as the factory publishes it:
| Variant | Wet weight (no fuel) | MSRP |
|---|---|---|
| Multistrada V4 | 505 lb | $19,995 |
| Multistrada V4 S | 511.4 lb | from $29,995 |
| Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour | 529 lb | $30,995 |
| Multistrada V4 Rally | 529 lb | from $31,995 |
| Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak | 500 lb | $33,995 |
| Multistrada V4 RS | 496 lb | from $39,995 |
The Pikes Peak is lighter than the base model. It carries Öhlins suspension, forged wheels and a titanium exhaust, and it still comes in under a $19,995 Multistrada V4 — 5 lb under, and 29 lb under a Grand Tour or Rally.
The engine it shares, used differently
The Pikes Peak uses the 1158 cc V4 Granturismo at 170 hp, but context changes what a given engine feels like. At 500 lb, the Pikes Peak has the best power-to-weight ratio of any Multistrada V4 except the RS — and the RS costs $6,000 more.
The counter-rotating crankshaft matters most here. Ducati credits it to the company's MotoGP experience and describes its function as countering the gyroscopic effect of the wheels, improving handling and riding precision.
Ducati's wider gearing spread applies here too — short first gear, long sixth. The long sixth still makes sense on a bike that will see highway transit stages between good roads.
Cylinder deactivation extends to low speed as well as standstill. The published valve clearance check interval is 37,000 miles.
Pricing
| Version | MSRP |
|---|---|
| Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak | $33,995 |
Destination charge is $1,295. MSRP excludes options, taxes, title, registration, destination charge, processing and handling fees, dealer charges and potential tariffs. The dealer sets the actual selling price.
Note that this is a single fixed price, not a "from" figure like the V4 S, Rally and RS carry.
The step from a V4 S in Ducati Red is $4,000. For that you get Öhlins in place of the standard suspension, forged Marchesini wheels, a titanium Akrapovič exhaust, carbon bodywork components and 11.4 lb off the bike.
Who this bike is for
The Pikes Peak is for the rider who wants a Multistrada's upright ergonomics and 170 hp, but whose riding is sport riding on good pavement. Mountain passes, long sweepers, the occasional track day. If you have ever looked at a Panigale and thought the only problem was the wrists, this is the motorcycle that solves it.
It is emphatically not an adventure bike, and the 17-inch front wheel is Ducati telling you so. Gravel, forest roads and unsealed surfaces are where a 19-inch front and real suspension travel earn their keep — buy a Rally. If you tour two-up with luggage, the Grand Tour is $3,000 less and was designed around that job. And if you simply want a capable, versatile Multistrada without paying for Öhlins and titanium, the V4 S saves you $4,000.
This is the specialist's Multistrada. It is also, at 500 lb and $33,995, one of the more coherent motorcycles in Ducati's current catalog — every choice on it points the same direction.
